He has been neutered and vaccinated and flew through all of that with class and style. His coat shines like black silk. His eyes, milk chocolate brown, look to everyone with a 'can we play' sign. He's got a fabulous calm personality and has all the earmarks of a therapy dog. Now Jesse isn't perfect - he's still a puppy. He doesn't chew furniture but he's still learning not to jump on people. He loves to ride in a car and wll go forever with you. He's good in our barn with the horses but if some of the other dogs bark at the horses, he will, too. He is a well rounded young man, and we're trying hard to bring him up right. Jesse is much loved in his foster home but they know that one day the perfect home for Jesse will come along. We are looking for someone who is home much of the time. Kids are okay - Jesse met two under 10 year old boys last week and thought they were very cool. He would also do well with stay at home or work at home adult. He'd make a great running partner or walking partner and is happy to schmooze on the couch at the end of the day. He is looking for a home that knows labs and loves them. ================================= Why am I with a rescue group? Imagine being thrown away - before you were born. That is what happened to Jesse and his siblings. Knowing their mother lab was still intact didn't prompt her owners into doing the right thing and getting her spayed. This was not her first litter so they knew what happened every few months. Knowing the pretty brown girl was pregnant didn't generate any action, either. But...let her go into labor and they're off to call animal control. They didn't even have the decency to let her have her pups in her own home first. Nor did they care enough to take her in themselves. No - they called the dog pound and made them pick the lady lab up as she was giving birth. But maybe, for Jesse and his brothers and sisters, it will turn out to be the best thing that could have happened to them. It can become a miracle for these tiny tots with your help. For now, instead of a muddy backyard in rural South Carolina, or perhaps life on the end of a chain, we hope that each one will find a warm and loving home with you. We've raised these pups the best we could. Mama didn't have enough milk so we hand fed them from a few days old. They've been touched and handled and played with and fussed over They are social and gregarious little souls and just ready to go off and delight their new families. She is still unsure about having an indoor life, but she likes it. She shivers and whines to come back in. She will be spayed in the next few weeks. Lady does well with other dogs of all sizes, kids (my 3 year old niece loves her!), and with a little time and patience she will make a wonderful companion. It looked almost as if a trap had sprung around her and she had gotten out in the neck of time. There is no telling how long the two friends had been alone at the house. Residents had moved out about four weeks before. Our caregivers laid down food and the two ate and then asked...is there room for us? Our caregivers went back for a bigger vehicle and then carried their two new charges back to Dreamweaver Farms. Antiobiotics and wound care and good food in plentiful supply have brought out the shine in Louisa's coat and the sparkle in her eyes. UPDATE: Louisa has been with us for a year now, we have learned that she is perfecctly house and crate trained. She just kept passing me over on euth day, saying she knew someone would come soon. Then, a lady came in to get a little poodle that was there and when she saw me she said 'oh my.' She didn't have room in her van that day but two days later, she came back and loaded up me and my friend the mini collie. I had been in that run a long time. It feels so good to stretch my legs and run in the grass and have 2 and 4 legged friends again. I love a ball and love to play fetch. I need an active family with a fenced in yard to keep me safe. (Read More)Dundee is blond, fit and handsome like Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee). His plumed tail curls over his back, and one of his erect ears, the right one, sometimes droops halfway. This, and his relaxed expression, gives him a very friendly look . With his alert, happy brown eyes, Dundee is ready for play or just hanging out. He is friendly when he meets people and animals. When he is spoken to, he endearingly cocks his head several times and looks at your face. When he heard a loud, unusual noise, he looked up and jumped a bit the first time, but he ignored the noise the second time. After just a few minutes of coaching and with a treat in front of his face, Dundee did a sit and a down! He likes toys, and with just a little training, we think he would fetch (true to his Labrador genes!) Dundee is a very easy goin' fella that passed the 'hug test' with Aunt Sherry. He likes ear rubs and likes to be petted and touched. We think he would adjust to family life very well and very quickly. Come visit him! Dundee tested very low for heartworms. Treatment can be difficult, and since it was a low positive, it was recommened to do the 'slow-kill' method, which is when a dog is being given monthly heartworm prevention and tested again in 6 months. Due to this temporary ailment, Dundee will go home with a year's worth of heartworm prevention. Marley's wants you to know - I am a 4 year old girl that is FULL of energy, so a big back yard would be lovely for me to run and play in. One of my favorite things is to get these curly-haired dogs to chase me, though none of them can catch me. When I kick in my turbos and stretch out long & low, you would think I was the model for the Greyhound buses and that they airbrushed out my spots. I enjoy playing with other dogs my size or larger. I don't like smaller dogs as much though, especially the yappy ones that try to boss me around. Cats look like big squirrels to me and are only good for chasing. Another favorite pastime of mine is chewing on big bones. I am an expert at making large nyla-bones into small nyla-bones. I am house-trained and crate-trained, and have not chewed anything I was not supposed to since growing out of my puppy phase. I love my adult humans a lot and love to climb up beside them. I'm spayed, have all my vaccinations and I've always been on heartworm and flea and tick preventative. Here are some more things I'd like in my new home: *A stay at home person to take me out regularly. My humans worked staggered shifts (mom is a nurse on nights and dad is a career professional so worked days). I've had the luxury of a lot of time with my humans at home and while I can be in a crate, it is lonely. I'd rather be with you. *Travel time. I love to see new sights and meet new people. I've traveled a lot with my people but I want to see more of the world. I love to ride in a car and will settle down happily and enjoy the ride. *Exercise - do you run? I'd love to go with you! Dalmations were bred to run beside the carriage of their people and I remember that and enjoy it. I can go all day. Please note that we do not ship our dogs. He pulled over when he realized it was not road debris at all but instead was a tiny kitten, her head tilted to one side. Jay managed to pick up the tiny kitten who still had blue eyes and get her to safety. Were it not for his good timing, Paige would have been dead in minutes. Paige, and her friends Piper and Phoebe now live and play in our cat cottage on the sanctuary grounds. It's better than a busy highway for sure but Paige has been here a while and served us well. We know there is better for her. Have you wanted a cat for a while but was afraid that your dog would suffer? Paige, Phoebe or Piper may be for you. Raised here at our animal sanctuary which focuses on poodles and poodle mixes, they've served us well as cat testers and now it's time for them to retire and find laps and arms of their own. They have no fear of dogs and that is both a good and a bad thing. They've often shared their cottage with a recovering pooch and right now are sharing it with a retired golden doodle. Because we have so many dogs, they really can't lounge and relax when they are on their screened in porch although they try. Somebody is always making a fuss when the cats come out. They'd both love a quiet screened in porch where the sun can warm them and they can actually watch a bird. Not many birds around with a play yard full of dogs. (Read More)the gate, thrown over the gate, or wandering in the highway just out from our sanctuary. Imagine our surprise last April to find a kitten, almost comatose and traumatized, frozen in position next to the big dog's gated area. Several of our more hunting prone canines were all barking 'LUNCH IS HERE' when caregiver Tammy found the tiny bundle of shaking fur. At first we thought it was one of the many ferals that roam around the country here. Instead, once we got her insdie and the shaking stopped we found an approximately four month old kitten sweet and obviously not people shy at all. A quick trip to the vet before we could put her in the cat cottage confirmed my worst fears - Willow was feline leuk positive. Dr. Hill recommended we wait 6 months and see if perhaps she had simply been exposed but her own immne system would get rid of the virus. Sadly, it didn't and six months later, we had Willow spayed under heavy monitors to make sure no infection could enter her body. She recovered beautifully and is now ready for a home of her own. Willow is very dog savvy as she can not be with the other felines that live at our sanctuary so the only company she gets are dogs and her goldfish, Fred. She lives in our director's office and is often the 'demo cat' that is taken into potentail adoption meetings so that people with cats can observe first hand how their possible new dog will do at home with their own canines. Willow is lonely. Fridays and Saturdays, our heavy adoption days, are fun but the rest of the week she doesn't get much attention. Donna works at home and at central station as much as she does in the office so Willow often goes days with only a brief pat and a filling up of her food bowl and cleaning out of the litter box. She does not have a screeend in porch in her office area so spends hours in her window seat, watching and waiting for someone to take her home. She has never known the pleasure of curling up on someone's bed and listening to her human sleep gently through the night while she watches out for them. Willow would be an ideal candidate for an only cat home that has laid back dogs. She loves dogs, never runs, and will play with them if given the chance. She has been at CPR for almost a year now, every since her heroic act of leading some CPR staff back to her companion Louise, a pointer mix, who was injured. Both Thelma and Louise were camping out through a very cold winter at an empty house with a 'for sale by owner' sign in the yard. Since that time, when Thelma arrived thin and uncared for, she has filled out and regained her health. She knows basic commands like sit and stay and is eager to learn every more. She is excellently crate trained-her crate is never dirty, period. While the CPR sanctuary isn't like a house, she would treat a home much as she does the sanctuary and continue to be fully housetrained. When we found Thelma, it looked as if she had recently had puppies, though we never found any around the deserted house. She hopped in our van like she was familiar with cars, so it's clear that she was someone's pet and there is no reason at all to have dumped her on a lonely country road. She is ready to have a home of her very own. She would love to be the only dog with someone to dote only on her, but CPR will consider having her go to a home with other dogs if they will come to the farm to meet Thelma. Chandler & his siblings (4 other males & 1 female) are hound mix puppies that were born to a feral mom that was set out on the road I live on. She was terrified of humans, what she had experienced in her short life is unknown. As most of the dogs set out on our road do, she made her way up to our property and favored our barn. We fed and watered her, gave her warm bedding...and waited on her pups to be born. She was very sweet, and did not mind me touching & deworming her pups at 2, 4, & 6 weeks old - but she wouldn't let us touch her...or come within 5 feet of her. We were finally able to get her to wag her tail when she saw us coming...but ... (Read More)that was it. We could have just taken the pups, but where would that have left her? Lonesome and hopeless? We were in the process of setting a humane trap cage to get her into a fence, so we could take her and the puppies in, find them homes and try to rehabilitate her. When the pups were 8 weeks old, their mom went missing. We searched and searched but mom couldn't be found. She took great care of her brood and I know she would want them to have what she never had - the loving touch of someone of who loves them, a soft and warm spot to lay their head at night, a consistent meal, knowing what tomorrow will bring, someone to care, a place to call home & most importantly --- to be loved unconditionally. The pups are around 12 weeks old now and have had 3 boosters (DHPP/distemper) & need 1 more in 2 weeks. They are hound mixes so we are not sure how they will do as 'working/hunting' dogs, but I do know they will make wonderful companions. If you are interested, please e-mail me for more information. She appeared at the home of one of our caregivers that welcomed her in. We looked for her owners, but it became apparent that they were not looking for her. Prissy is currently in a foster home but really wants a forever home and family to call her own. She can be independent - she doesn't expect much from people anymore. I guess she has been abandoned too many times and feels that people come and go, so why get attached? We'd like to change Prissy's perspective of life and show her that not all people are bad, and that she will NEVER be abandoned again. We believe she was neglected as she is submissive when you hover over her to pick her up, etc. Give Prissy some TLC and she will be your friend for life. Sesko is an American Pitbull Terrier mix. He is great with kids (5 & up) and men & women. Sesko has not been tested with cats. He does well with all of the dogs in his foster home which consist of small and large dogs. He MUST be an indoor pet. Sesko loves to play and would do best with a fenced in yard or committed leash walker. He is crate trained, and we will be sending house training instructions along with him and what he is used to.
